April 24 - The true impact of Black Friday on the online gambling industry
could be a lot more far reaching than people think.
Online casino developer Microgaming widely considered to be the largest
provider of online casino games, has suspended play at all of their casinos by
residents of the United State of America.
Online casino enthusiasts who may have thought that only online poker players will
be affected got a rude awakening if they had a Microgaming casino account at any
of the many casinos that use the software..
The DoJ crackdown on online poker has forced Microgaming to stop allowing
transactions at any of its casinos by US residents. Although Microgaming
suspended new player acquisition post UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gaming
Enforcement Act ) in 2006, players who had existing online casino accounts were
allowed to continue making deposits, playing casino games, and making
withdrawals. This excluded up to 13 US states.
In 2010, active US accounts were moved to a new software platform, but those
systems have been shut down.
Microgaming casinos have for all intent and purpose now left the US market
altogether to the disappointment of thousands of online casino fan.
Most casino have emailed their US players and they have been promised
settlement of their accounts.
