June 5 - Embattled online casino payment processor NETeller has agreed to a
payment plan to pay US customers back the money they are owed, The plan is set
to be put in action by mid-July but it is as yet unclear how much of the $55
million that was seized is being made available by authorities...
Neteller has been working with the Southern District of New
York U.S. Attorney's office an a plan to hand back money to account holders,
which will no doubt be a relief for many. The company said that they will
release the money as soon as authorities have concluded their investigations.
"The agreement on the distribution plan represents a milestone in our
cooperation with the U.S. authorities," Ron
Martin, NEteller CEO said. He continued to apologize for not handing money back
earlier.
It is of little surprise The U.S. Attorney's office offered no comment.
Once the money is freed, US customers will have a limited time to claim their
funds, and will be able to do so via EFT or check. Customers will be able to use
their bank accounts that were already linked to their NEteller accounts.
They will have to transfer the full amount in the account and no interest
will be paid.
(PS. I wonder who is earning the interest on the seized funds? The Attorney's
office?)
