July 4 - According to press reports, Gibraltar is set to radically
revise its online gambling regulations. The proposed changes will be aimed at
more efficient of large online gambling operators currently licensed on "The
Rock"...
Gibraltar is home to some of the largest online gambling groups, such as
Party Gaming, who owns
Party
Poker, and Cassava Enterprises who is behind
888.com
and
Pacific Poker.
Gibraltar is the country outside of the European Union that from where
operators are allowed to market directly to the UK, in accordance with the
recently changes UK gambling legislation.
The UK government is apparently keen for Gibraltar to update its regulations
to be closer in line with their own act.
One such proposed change is that all Gibraltar licensees would have to apply
for a UK remote gaming license.
This will force operators to comply with UK regulations related to age verification,
software testing and social responsibility.
It will also require certain disclosures from licensees.
