Last season our New Orleans Saints betting preview for 2007 predicted that this team could "come crashing back down to earth" following their brilliant efforts in 06 when they came from nowhere to be a playoff team. They duly fell apart in 07 and cobbled together only 7 wins. This was a streaky team that had absolutely no defense and played in a lot of high scoring games (the Over was 10-6 for their games). Once they were eliminated from the postseason all the games flew Over: 5-0 the final 5 games of the season.

For some reason this team is the pundits' choice to win the division and return to the playoffs. We think they'll be better than they were last year but not that much better. In short they'll win 8 or 9 games and still miss the playoffs as the NFC wild card team will come from the loaded East. The Saints have a horrible schedule that includes a 6 week stretch of no home games (they play 3 on the road, get a "home game" in London, and have their bye week). That should break their focus and probably scupper the season. This team is overrated by the oddsmakers and should be bet against in the early weeks of the regular season.
