NFL Playoff Races Heat Up - 12-08-08

December 8 - NFL betting has never been trickier than this season with unpredictable results becoming the norm and a whole host of teams still in with a shot to make the playoffs.

On Sunday the New York Giants lost against the Eagles but stayed firmly on course to win the East after both the Cowboys and the Redskins failed to capitalize later on the same day by losing their games as well. Dallas couldn't find a way past the Steelers and Washington bumped an even better defense in the form of the surging Ravens.

Baltimore and Pittsburgh are fighting it out for the AFC North with the Steelers leading by a game with their 10-3 record. The Ravens are 9-4, and by no means assured of a wild card spot.

The AFC has plenty of other wildcard contenders with the Patriots, Dolphins, and Jets all locked at 8-5 in the East. The Colts are also 9-4 and tied with the Ravens for the best wild card record in the AFC. There are three spots available for these five teams as they seem the most likely contenders for the postseason. The Titans and the Broncos seem set to get there as division champions in the South and West respectively.

The NFC is as competitive particularly in the South where all four teams have shown enough form to warrant a shot at the postseason. Right now Tampa Bay and Carolina are tied at 9-3 with their Monday Night Football matchup pending for later tonight. The Falcons are 8-5 and the Saints are 7-6, and none of them are out of it yet.

The NFC East has been dominated by the Giants at 11-2, but Dallas and Washington still have hope at 8-5 and 7-6 for the season, and of course the Eagles with their 7-5-1 record aren't done yet.

The NFC North is a boat race between the Bears and Vikings, with Minnesota holding a one game lead. The NFC West should end up with the Cardinals, the only team above .500, just as the Broncos are in the AFC. The West has been dreadful for both conferences this year.

Do not miss out on our our detailed Monday Night Football Betting preview for tonight's big game between theTampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers including a full odds comparison.
