July 12 - The NFL Preseason gets underway in less than a month and expert handicappers predict that there will be some big betting shifts due to the large number of new head coaches (ten) this season. The NFL lines might be slow to take this into account, so there's money to be made early on.
We asked an expert NFL handicapper from Mycapper.com to break down how these new coaches could potentially impact NFL preseason games. Here are some key things to look out for in the Preseason for five of the teams with new head coaches (we'll look at the other five teams with new head coaches in Part 2):
Buffalo Bills - The new coach is Dick Jauron who had a poor ATS record in the preseason with the Bears. The Bills are vulnerable this year and could really struggle this NFL preseason.
Detroit Lions - The new coach is Rod Marinelli who has never been a head coach before. But he did have a fantastic record as the assistant head coach at Tampa Bay. Look for new defensive toughness from the Lions and some good NFL preseason form.
Green Bay Packers - The new coach is Mike McCarthy who had a great preseason record as the offensive coordinator of the 49ers last year (they went 4-0). The Packers could be good preseason value if Rodgers plays well, but that's a big if.
Houston Texans - The new coach is Gary Kubiak and the Texans might improve on their dismal preseason record of the past few seasons. Kubiak has a winner's mentality from his time with the Broncos. The winning needs to start immediately for this team and they could be good preseason value.
Kansas City Chiefs - The new coach is Herm Edwards who has a good ATS preseason record established with the Jets. He is a tough coach who wants to win preseason games badly. The Chiefs are a soft team that typically play poorly in the preseason. We'll have to wait and see how they do in their first game against the Texans to see if Edwards will transform them into preseason winners.
