August 9 - It's early days yet, but Olympic betting action seems to be
concentrated on the obvious sports. The most detailed stats available publically
is Betfair's market stats, which shows the amount of money matched on the
exchange for each betting event. Even though Betfair does not accept US wagers,
trend in the US are unlikely to be much different.
It comes as little surprise that the Men's Basketball winner market has seen
the most money matched so far. The next largest market is also rather obvious:
most medals and most gold. The Men's 100m has had surprisingly less action than
one would have thought but this might change after the heats.
The biggest betting market for an individual event so far is the soccer match
between China and Venezuela taking place today. The big soccer matches are likely to
take even more action as the tournament wears on and those will be interesting to
keep an eye on.
