May 28 - US land based casino groups have been quietly observing the huge
growth in online casino gambling. In fact, most have been supportive of attempts
to outlaw online casino gambling. However, some of the heavyweights are starting
to display interest in this lucrative multi billion dollar market...
I what marks a major turnaround, major US based land based casino operators
have started to lobby Congress to legalize online gambling, and are aligning
themselves with the industry's belief that legislation is the best way to
control the online casino gambling industry, and that the online gambling
industry represents a major tax leak for the US government.

As exciting as this sounds for the industry, it also presents a huge threat
for offshore online gambling companies. US online gambling enthusiasts make up a
significant proportion of the market, and many of the will be inclined to gamble
online with a major US brand, rather than with the offshore operators. Current
numbers suggest that over 15 million Americans have engaged in some or other for
of gambling online, but the true number, which is a very conservative estimate.
Legislation in Europe and the UK has been largely successful, the US
lawmakers will be well advised to take note, as 85% of respondents in a recent
Wall Street Journal Poll completely opposed the banning of online gambling
Most industry observer seem to be in agreement that the Senate is highly
unlikely to pass any such bill.
