Online Gambling Giant 888 To Launch a Sportsbook - 10-04-07

October 4 -  888.com, the London listed online gambling giant has announced that it will launch an online sports betting service by early next year. The company is also reported to be in talks with another possible acquisition.

According to industry insider, 888 is close to closing a deal with the Rank group's Blue Square bookmaking operation, which will allow it to offer bets on soccer matches, horse racing and other sports.

888.com's talks with Ladbrokes earlier this year were halted due to concerns by the latter over possible retroactive actions by the US authorities, which has set the company firmly back on the acquisition trail.

888.com was one of the biggest online businesses prior to the change of US legislation and its subsequent withdrawal from that market. The company has since worked hard at expanding its global reach and seems to have been successful doing that.

In its latest quarterly results, 888 has shown an increase in net gaming revenues of 24% compared to the same period last year, and is investing in new games and new platforms including Internet, Mobile and Airplane-entertainment channels.

According to reports from a European conference where 888 is in attendance, the sports betting service will initially target the UK, but will be expanded to other countries later on.

888 is still hugely popular with players outside of the US and many people swear by their service. They have the track record to back that up, where you are looking for casino or poker games.
