July 22 - Sunday has become a holy day for plenty of online poker players in more ways than one. This is the day that poker sites bring some of their biggest tournaments, continuously trying to outdo each other with bigger prizes and guarantees.
Last Sunday saw online poker players enjoy one of the best Sundays in recent history, with competition between two of the biggest sites so tough that the electricity in the air was almost tangible.
Both
Poker Stars and FullTiltPoker ran multi million dollar tournaments on Sunday, with a total prize pool of $5.5 million offered between the two of them - certainly a good reason to try these tournaments if ever there was one!
Both sites claimed that they were going for the world record to hold the title for the biggest online tournament. Full Tilt ran its Record Breaker tournament on Sunday that guaranteed $500K and promised to break the old world record.
While Full Tilt eventually broke the record, the competitive edge of the industry allowed the site to gloat with the title for a very short time.
Running almost simultaneously with Full Tilt's Record Breaker (with a $5 buy in) was PokerStars' own $1 buy in tournament that managed to draw 65,000 players, thereby broking the new/old record set by Full Tilt very quickly.
There were many satisfied players on Sunday, with PahrRK, walking away with the biggest prize of all - a $296,775 win on Full Tilt's $1.5 Million Guaranteed.
