| June 11 - In Game 1 of this season's NBA Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers trounced Orlando Magic 100-75, in Game 2 they just managed to beat the Magic by 101-96, and in Tuesday's Game 3 in Orlando, the visitors let the game slip through their fingers as Orlando notched up a 108-104 victory to save the series.
Up until now in the Finals, the Lakers have been the dominant team, but on Tuesday night at Amway Arena it was the Magic's turn to shine. One of the team's star players was Rafer Alston, who having already played a big role in getting the Magic into the NBA Playoffs, chalked up 20 points before succumbing to fatigue.
Said the point guard after the exhilarating game, 'I was aggressive from start to finish and I was able to mix it up.' Orlando Magic fans were thrilled to see the player return to form after delivering a less than convincing performance in Game 2, and being benched for most of the fourth quarter, as well as overtime, in Game 2.
But as much as Orlando Magic seemed to improve in Tuesday's game, so the Lakers seemed to play less well, notably shooting guard Kobe Bryant, who despite denying it to reporters after the game, just looked tired. And who could blame him, given that he has played at the top of his game for three straight seasons?
Kobe missed many key shots during the game, and made a couple of bad mistakes. The biggest was when he lost the ball during the last 30 seconds in what was arguably the game's biggest possession, which put the final nail in the Lakers' coffin. Even Orlando players noticed Kobe was not playing to his full potential.
Said Orlando Magic guard Mickael Pietrus, 'That wasn't Kobe out there because he missed a lot of free throws. I know from watching him in the playoffs when I wasn't in the Finals, I know that he's going to come out here, and we have to be ready.' Alston was quoted as saying 'Kobe loves the challenge to bounce back'.
Of course, if Kobe is a little burnt out, his timing could not be worse. The NBA Finals are the epitome of the NBA season, where good and bad performances are forever remembered by fans, coaches and teammates. As a result, in Game 4, where the Magic will be looking to tie the Lakers, all eyes will be on Kobe.
