PartyPoker.com Pays First Ever Million Dollar Bad Beat Jackpot - 08-17-08

August 17 - Thursday saw a new world record for an online poker Bad Beat Jackpot created at Party Poker.com when a bad beat payout on an online table reached $1 013 381 and change, surpassing the previous record of $992 000.

Most leading poker rooms have a bad beat jackpot and they work pretty much in the same way. The jackpot is won on qualifying tables (usually marked as in the casino of Party Poker). If a players loses with a hand featuring four of a kind (8's or better), the jackpot pays out to the table.

This is exactly what occurred when 'Judith75' from Germany who thought she had a lock on the hand with her quad 9's this week. You can't even think that you'll lose the hand in this kind of situation, but 'Hiyall' from Scotland was holding the stone cold nuts - a royal flush (a hand that is 649'739/1 against being dealt). Top top it all, a German player at the table joined to bloodbath and showed a full house.

The win was achieved on a $0.50/$1 table and the table pot at stake was a monstrous $24. With the quad 9's being beaten by the royal flush, Judith75 won $354 683.57, whilst hand winner Hiyall scooped $177 341.79 (plsu of course the $24 from the pot!). The other players at the table won $22 167.72 each, simply for being there.

PartyPoker's Bad Beat jackpot is only available on specially clearly marked tables. Of the jackpot, 50 percent is paid to the (un)lucky loser of the hand who is subject to the bad beat, 25 percent to the winner, and the remaining 25 percent is split between the other seated players who took part in the hand. Players who sit out the hand are not rewarded. In this payout it happened to be a family pot with all ten players in the hand.
