August 11 - eCOGRA (eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and
Assurance) have announced a new program to address the issue of under-age and
problem online gambling at online casinos.
eCOGRA, which certified and monitors more than 50 online gambling sites
(mainly online casinos), will be putting in place a program to improve control
of this problem. Following an initial training program already conducted, eCOGRA
will prescribe a process that should see improved ID verification by operators.
All certified gambling operators will publish Responsible Gambling advice,
which will warn visitors about these problems, and how to address them. This
will include the option of gamblers excluding themselves from a site, and
monitoring processes to spot addictive behavior. There will also be links
to specialist support organizations.
The program will also impose rules that prohibit marketing to minors and know
problem gamblers.
"We are extremely serious about the issue, and are moving ahead with full
buy-in from our certified casinos. It is morally wrong to entice minors. Our
Audit panel will carefully monitor the restrictions and provide advice to
certified operators." said Andrew Beveridge, CEO of eCOGRA.
