Playboy Shuts Down Casino and Poker Room - 01-15-09

January 15 - The industry has seen a number of online casino closures and takeovers over the last few months and in a sign of the difficult economic times, the Playboy Casino and Poker room has closed its doors.

An email was sent out this week by Playboy Gaming, advising customers that effective January 29th they will no longer be able to play at the Playboy Gaming sites.

Playboy Gaming have had a rough ride in the online gaming space. They launched on the Cryptologic network in 2006, not long before the introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act in the US.  The Playboy Casino and Poker Room were therefore never available to US citizens, which eliminated a major part of their target market.

Cryptologic trades on New York Stock Exchange and was a pioneer in online gambling. The loss of the Playboy brand comes soon after another brand, Omni Casino, defected to Playtech. Q3 2008 reports for Cryptologic show a loss of well over $5 million, so it's not a year to remember.

Nevertheless, Cryptologic continues to make waves in the online casino space with some of the best games out there. In January they launched three new games including Marvel Super Hero, Spider-Man, a new adventure slot game called Dragon Sword, and an enhanced version of Atlantic City Blackjack, one of the company's most popular casino games.

Players can try the games at Intercasino.com.

"At CryptoLogic, branded casino games are one of the pillars of our strategy, and today we extend our lead in this highly profitable segment even further," said Brian Hadfield, CEO and President of CryptoLogic's. "CryptoLogic's original Spider-Man slot game was one of our most successful games ever, and we have high hopes for these new games, which deliver a truly unique customer experience."

If you enjoyed the Cryptologic casino games offered by Playboy Casino, we recommend you switch to Intercasino.com where you can continue to play all their wonderful games including the superb Marvel Comic Hero slots.)

(Cryptologic casinos unfortunately do not accept real money players from the United States.).)
