March 12 - Police raided the San Jose home of flamboyant online casino and
sportsbook mogul, Calvin Ayre. Ayre is the founder and CEO of Bodog.com, one of
the biggest gambling entertainment groups, and was recently in Forbes
Magazine...
Ayre was featured in the Forbes annual ranking of the world's billionaires.
His net worth is estimated at $1 billion.
The Forbes reports stirred things up a little in Costa Rica” Ayre said to
Forbes. "the local papers made quite a big thing about it, and prompted the
officials to come after me."
The raid occurred during a party at the Ayre mansion, held for the poker
reality TV show to air on Fox Sports. About 100 police officers arrived in
buses, announcing that they were looking for an illegal poker game.
Apparently there were also suggestions that police investigated an illegal
prostitution ring, ruin from the house.
Computers and files were removed under a search warrant.
Ayre was not arrested, but his three bodyguards were detained. Ayre is a
Canadian citizen.
