March 1 - Nine.com, the offshore online gambling company, each
week chooses their Gambler of the Week. This week they chose Steve Jones of
Shreveport LA. The award goes to someone who does something risky, unusual or
stupid. Mr. Jones narrowly made the deadline to win the $853,492
Louisiana Powerball...
Mr. Jones, heard about an unclaimed Powerball prize of $853,492, with the
winning ticket purchased in October last year, but as yet not presented. it
suddenly dawned on him that he had bought Powerball tickets during that month.
He decided to do some house cleaning and located three tickets under his bed. On
Thursday last week, Jones presented the ticket at the Louisiana Lottery
Corporation and found out that he had won $597,447 after taxes.
"A friend told me that he read in the papers about the missing ticket" Jones
said. "I buy them all the time and that made me look through the house." He took
the tickets to at the local liquor store where he regularly buys his tickets.
"The first two tickets showed nothing, but the third said that I needed to visit
the local lottery office," said Jones. "I knew something was up and asked
someone to drive me". The winning ticket would have expired on April 17,
as winners have 180 days within which to claim their prizes.
Moral of the story? Always Check you lottery tickets!
