September 17 - Last weekend, English football fans were treated to a smorgasbord of football action, as 20 English Premier League teams went to battle, some of them chalking up score lines that left their fans gobsmacked, but grinning, and others racking up loses that left their fans open-mouthed and teary-eyed.

For instance, Sunderland's 4-1 drubbing of Hull City on Saturday left the former's fans celebrating late into the night while the latter's fans could not believe how they lost by 3 goals. Two of Sunderland's goals were scored by former Tottenham player, Darren Bent, who has scored 4 goals in just 5 games for his new team.
Said Bent after the game, 'Harry Redknapp (Tottenham Hotspur manager) did not fancy me. As such I really want to show what a good player I am and the new boss (Steve Bruce) has always had every confidence in me. He believes in me so my confidence has been high since I've been here, and I've played fantastic.'
Another surprise result, perhaps, was Arsenal's 2-4 loss to Manchester City, just two weeks after the top London team lost to Manchester United by 2-1. Arsenal's easily flustered manager, Arsene Wenger, must have been spitting blood after the game that saw yet another opportunity disappear down the drain.
As English football fans have come to expect from Arsenal, every loss opens the way for much winging and moaning and general mud-slinging. And after Saturday's defeat for Arsenal, controversy reared its ugly head regarding the conduct of ex-Arsenal player, Emmanuel Adebayor, who was accused of poor conduct.
The Manchester City striker came under fire following Saturday's match after he allegedly 'goaded' Arsenal fans at Manchester City's home ground by using certain hand gestures. While Adebayor claims he was just reacting to the continual jeering from visiting Arsenal fans, the incident will reportedly be handled by the FA.
Liverpool's 4-0 defeat of Burnley may have come as no surprise to many, but it does raise concerns about the latter team's chances during the rest of the season. Burnley has had a rough start to the season - going down to the likes of Stoke City, Man United, Everton, Chelsea and now Liverpool.
But one Burnley player who does not seem too concerned is defender Tyrone Mears, who insists there is no reason to panic. 'I don't think we are going to be judged on those games,' he said. 'They contain the best players in the world. It's the games coming up that we need to be winning points in and be judged on.'
