September 5 - The Premier League season is in its infancy with the teams having played only 4 or 5 games apiece, but still it looks a lot more competitive than past seasons. The relative openness of the league can be inferred from the latest betting for the Premiership title winner. These odds come to us courtesy of Centrebet.CHELSEA are the betting favourites to win the league at odds of 2.90 but next we find LIVERPOOL at 3.10, with defending champs MANCHESTER UNITED easy to back at 4.00, and ARSENAL also in with a shout at 8.25.
It's not only a straight two-horse race between Chelsea and Manchester United. Liverpool and Arsenal are in the mix and teams like Manchester City, West Ham, and Everton can all act as spoilers in terms of squad talent.
Now obviously none of those "spoiler" teams can win the league, but Everton are currently third in the table with Man City fifth. Manchester United are eighth, which is a shock, although they're only two points adrift of their market rivals in the betting.
The betting market to be relegated often offers superior value and here we find that DERBY, BIRMINGHAM, and FULHAM are making the early running in the wrong direction. The price about SUNDERLAND dropping back to division 1 looks tempting at 3.25.
