April 15 - We received a tip-off from a regular reader last week that Reality
TV company Bluemoon Entertainment has lodged a complaint with the LA courts,
claiming that the Bodog Reality Poker series, "Wild Card Poker", was their
concept...
The rumor was confirmed when our reader sent us a link to the actual court
docket. In short, Bluemoon claims that Bodog has stolen their "Wild Card Poker"
concept, which it presented to Bodog.com last year.
The case comes hot on the heels of the news that the mansion of flamboyant
CEO, Calvin Ayre, was raided during the filming of the show. The show is due to
air this week. Bluemoon have tried to stop the airing of the show, but their
appeals were turned down by an LA court.
Wild Card Poker will air over six episodes. The who will feature Calvin Ayre
prominently (no surprises here), and the winner will walk away with $500,000.
Bluemoon is a well established and experienced Reality TV producer, and their
shows have been aired by many major TV networks. Bluemoon claims that their
proposals and concept documents were in effect stolen by Bodog, as they produced
a show that closely resembles the ideas presented to them by Bluemoon.
BlueMoon seeks damages for breach of contract, implied breach of contract,
breach of confidence and misappropriation of ideas.
A Bodog spokes person said that they hope to "...resolve the matter without
the need for litigation.".
Bodog.com is probably quite pleased with the publicity received just before
the airing of their new show.
