Record Tournament Player Numbers For Online Poker Sites - 01-26-08

January 26 - Following Pokerstars' recent new record of over 30,000 concurrent active players, online poker rooms continue to set new records as tournament, satellite and cash game activity continues to increase.

Last weekend a number of different online poker rooms had record numbers of entrants into their tournaments. All the major poker rooms reportedly reached and surpassed the guarantee levels for their major weekend tournaments. This included large numbers at the major rooms like FullTiltPoker.com ($200,000 and occasionally $1 million), PokerStars.com ($1 million) and PartyPoker.com ($100,000). The sites periodically pass the guarantee mark, but it seems to occur more frequently.

The PokerStars.com Sunday Million tournament is the most dominant over the tournament weekend and last weekend had a field of over 7,520 playing which resulted in a  prize pool of $1.5 million. A total of 1,080 players got to the money bubble and presented a winner's prize estimated at $212,000.

The FullTiltPoker.com One Million Dollar Guaranteed tournament had a buy-in of $535 and saw a field of 2,252 players starting. The eventual prize pool was $1.126 million, and the winner took home $206,564 with 351 players getting to the money.

PartyPoker's $300,000 Guaranteed tournament welcomed 1,735 players on Sunday and resulted in a $347,600 prize pool with a first prize of $67,665.

It will be interesting to see whether the numbers can continue at these levels on this coming weekend.
