May 21 - Online gambling is not lacking in popularity all over the
world, and there is a concerted push around the world to legalize online
gambling, and regulate it properly. It therefore came as a surprise this week
when the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) announced that it is turning its back on the
industry.

RBS announced this week that they will not process online gambling
transactions any longer, but that their gambling customers can still remains
banking customers if they wish. Many online gambling operators in the UK and
Europe will be forced to move their processing to another bank.
The merger with ABN AMBRO, who has a policy against online gambling
translations, seems to to be the reason behind this decision. The Swiss
government has also been pressuring banks to not process online gambling
transactions so that combined with pressures from the Dutch government has
forced RBS to change their policy.
IT is unknown what the value of gambling transactions is that RBS will be
foregoing but it will definitely be significant.
No doubt that the banks positioned to pick up the slack will be scrambling to
get their share of the pie.
