San Francisco 49ers 2008 Betting Preview

The 49ers were expected to continue improving last year but instead they took a giant step in the wrong direction. They play in a very weak NFC West division but seem unlikely to be in any position to take advantage of the situation. MyCapper previews their 2008 NFL betting chances.

2007/08 Record: 5-11

2007/08 Verdict:

In our preview for the 2007 49ers we remarked that this team would be doing well if they managed 7 SU victories. They went backwards and the reason was a shocking offense that ranked last in most major categories. They couldn't move the ball and the knives will be out quickly for Alex Smith and then his coach if that pattern continues. The hiring of Mike Martz as a coordinator of the offense effectively puts the decision of who starts at QB in his hands. We look for a quick change as Smith has had plenty of time to settle in and shown very little.

2008/09 Mycapper.com NFL Betting Prediction: DOWN

It's hard to get much worse than they were last season but we look for the 49ers to wriggle under that bar of mediocrity set so low in 2007. They could easily end up with only 3 or 4 wins on the year. If you're going to bet on this team than take a punt on the total number of wins for the season and for goodness sakes go UNDER. San Fran is in rebuilding mode yet again and won't be sending shivers down anyone's spine this season.
