Serbia Beats Germany In Group D Betting Upset - 06-18-10
June 18 - Yesterday we predicted that Mexico would be good value to beat the overrated and inept French and they cruised past the betting favorites in a result that made the World Cup odds look silly, and not for the first time, as Mexico won handily 2-0. But few would have predicted that Serbia would beat Germany today in Group D action, and yet that is about to happen as we watch the game unfold.
It is half time and Serbia lead the Teutonic titans 1-0, but Germany also only have 10 men after Klose was sent off for two minor fouls, both of which earned him yellow cards, in one of the unluckiest refereeing decisions of the tournament.
So even though Germany were prohibitive betting favorites to win this game we now find that in-running betting makes the Serbs massively odds-on. This will also throw Group D wide open with the result very good news for Ghana, and even for the hopeless Australians who still have a mountain to climb.
has posted the following odds on the two remaining games later today:
The USA is expected to beat Slovenia and take control of their Group. Slovenia are easy to back at 2.75 with America short at 1.1 - the draw is 2.25 and we think this is the best value of all. Take the Draw here in an upset result.
The final game of the night sees the mediocre Algerians led to the slaughter against England. The inventors of football are 0.22 to win with the inventors of camel fondling rank outsiders at 14.0. The draw is a massive 5.0 but that also seems unlikely as England should win by at least two clear goals.
The last time Serbia annoyed Germany the country responded by killing all of them, but one assumes they will simply shake hands this time and work on a way to dispatch Ghana.
