Soccer World Cup - Saturday Results And Betting Update - 06-11-06

June 11 - Online sportsbooks had a mixed experience in the last 24 hours with a couple of Soccer World Cup games not going as predicted. The biggest shock was Trinidad and Tobago holding Sweden to a draw. Here are the latest World Cup Soccer results and betting odds...

England beats Paraguay and the Sportsbooks Felt the Heat

To the dismay of the Bookmakers, both England and the Under came in on this game. No-matter how high the English number moved, the public could not get enough of this team and the Books took a big bath on this game. England started the game very strong, scoring early and then going into a defensive shell. Playing 5-6 defenders in the backfield the entire 2 nd half, England Defense held up to the challenge and kept Paraguay off the scoreboard.

Trinidad Shocks Sweden with a 0-0 Draw

The books made a killing on this game with all the money coming down on Sweden . What they lost in the 1 st game, they gained back and more in the 2 nd , as Trinidad held strong all game. What a fun 1 st half of soccer, yet not one shot on goal until the 32 nd minute mark and Sweden didn't have a real chance until the 40 minute mark. The 2 nd half saw Sweden totally dominate play and just could not score. A 0-0 ending for this game is a shocking upset and the Swedes should be ashamed of themselves.

Who to Play for Sunday's Games

Tomorrow we will see all teams from Group D the so called group of life with Mexico and Portugal massive favorites to qualify at the expense of the minnows Angola and Iran .

Serbia +300 vs Holland Even

The first match is from Group C which features the much awaited appearance of Holland against a strong side from Serbia & Montenegro , this has all the makings of a great matchup. Under their new Head Coach, Ilija Petkovic, S&M have not lost a single game and has only let in 1 goal in their last 10 qualifying games. The problem facing Serbia is scoring and for that reason, the under stands out to me in this game. Here is one of the best defensive teams in the world, who can't score and the line at BetWWTS.com is Under 2.5 -150. Although I don't like the chalk, I cannot see more that 2 goals scored in this game. BetWWTS has the Draw on this game at +210 and I like this play. My predicted score is 1-0, 0-0 or 1-1, so the Under is a rock solid play.

Mexico -175 vs Iran +550

Mexico is one exciting team and the fans should be screaming Borgetti's name Sunday. This is probably the most exciting scorer in the tournament and he should go off tomorrow against Iran . The majority of the money again is coming in on the favorite with punters also expecting a high scoring game. I like Mexico to win this game easily and I also like the -1.5 in this game as my expected score is 3-1 Mexico . The world disagrees with me, as the money is coming in on Angola . The line came out in the 200s and has steadily dropped the last few days. Wait this one out and grab Mexico as they start their World Cup with a victory.

Portugal -275 vs Angola +900

If you have been reading my World Cup previews, you already know I like Portugal in this tournament. Portuguese coach Louis Felipe Scolari is going for a unique double having been in charge of the successful Brazil side in 2002, and will be looking for striker Pauleta (a springer in the top goalscorer market) to help his side conquer Angola. I never like suggesting betting -275 plays, but I see no reason why this line should not be around -350. This is a high scoring team, playing in a fast paced Group against a weaker Angola . On their way to qualifying for the World Cup, Portugal scored an impressive 35 goals, while only conceding 5 and destroyed Russia 7-1 in a statement game. It could be one of those games, as Portugal should beat Angola by 2-3 goals in this affair. I like Portugal at -275 in this game, but I much prefer the Over 2.5. BetWWTS has the Over at -110 and this is the best bet of the day.
