Tiger Woods Odds Of Winning A Major At Bet365.com - 02-14-06

February 14 - Bet365.com, a leading online sportsbook, has posted their odds for this year's Majors, and unsurprisingly a resurgent Tiger Woods heads the golf betting market at a prohibitive price. Bet 365 reckons that Tiger Woods is a 14/10 shot to win one Major golf tournament during the 2006 season.

Interestingly, you can also bet on the top players failing to win a Major in 2006. One would expect that this is far more likely, but in Tiger's case he is only 13/10 to not win a major. Compare the betting lines on the other four top players in the world: Ernie Els (3/10 to miss out on the Majors), Retief Goosen (1/4 to miss), Phil Mickelson (3/10 to miss), and Vijay Singh (3/10 to miss) and you can clearly observe that Tiger Woods is once again in a different league to other golfers.

What are the chances that Tiger Woods will win more than one of the four golf majors (The British Open, The US Open, The US PGA, The Masters) this year? Bet365.com reckons that Woods is a 4/1 chance to win two majors! That means they feel he has a 20% chance to win two of the four tournaments, an amazing vote of confidence. He is 16/1 to win three of the four, and only 40/1 to complete the grand slam.

These odds reflect that Tiger Woods is likely to start at 15/10 to win any one of the four tournaments, which is a very short price, and offers little betting value. The truth of the matter is that before the start of the Masters it should be possible to get 2/1 on Woods to win that event. The correct betting line on Woods capturing the grand slam should be 80/1, and even then it is disputable as to whether there is any value in taking that price. The chances of it happening are extremely remote, although if Woods wins the first major of the year there would be a lot of value in hedging this bet. The odds would plummet, as Tiger Woods would then be the only player with a chance of completing the slam and you could lay off the original bet.

Bet365.com offers a lot of exotic sports bets, not only on golf but on a worldwide array of events. Our advice is to take futures bets with Bet365.com and then open an account at one of the many online betting exchanges in order to trade those positions "in-running".
