Tiger Woods The Favorite In Comeback At Accenture Match Play - 02-25-09

tiger woods comeback

February 25 - One of the most anticipated sporting events in a long time has to be the comeback tournament of Tiger Woods. Well the wait is over as today the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship beginning starts in Arizona.

There is no surprise as Woods starts as the favorite, regardless of the fact that he last played in June when he won the U.S. Open on his crook knee. ACL knee surgery has ended the career of many sportsmen and women but the bookies don't seem to care.

Woods is a 4/1 favorite at most Vegas and online sportsbooks. There is daylight before Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, and Anthony Kim at around 15/1. Check out all the odds at Bodoglife.com.

Mickelson might be good value as he comes off a win last week. Woods on the other hand won the WGC-Accenture Match Play in 2008 as well as 2004 and 2003 (knees intact at the time).

Others to keep an eye on will be 2006 winner of this event, Geoff Ogilvy who is at 20:1 odds alongside the 2007 winner, Henrik Stenson.

Woods is a match play master, so it makes sense that he chose this event for his comeback. Some interesting prop bets are available at Sportsbook.com: How many majors Woods will win this year with zero majors at 1/1 odds, one major at 2/1, two at 3/1, and three majors at 10/1. The Grand Slam is at at 20:1.

Speculation is rife over how well the knee will hold up, especially considering the rotation that Wood's swing puts through the knee joint.

In his press conference yesterday he reminded everyone that he doesn't turn up unless he thinks he can win.

I'll be keeping an eye on TV, along with million of people all over the globe.

US Customers: We recommend Bodoglife Sportsbook for betting on this event.

UK, European and other non-US Customers: We recommend Ladbrokes.comom

Reminder: Vegas Technology-powered Golden Casino is running a separate slots tournament on the Cherry Blossom slot - this one is free to enter and carries a $200,000 prize pool.  Read more about the Golden Casino $200,000 March Tournamenttt.
