Somehow, his shrieking co-star, the hideous Dakota Fanning did not pick up her deserved nomination in the Worst Female category. A rare lapse of judgement by the Razzie judges.
Cruise will have to battle with other non-talents like Jamie Kennedy, who did equally poor work in Son of The Mask, a film that is also favored to take overall honors for Worst Picture of the Year. Tom Cruise is 2/1 to win the worst actor title, but so to is Kennedy.
Tom Cruise also managed to be nominated not once but twice for the award given to the star that generated the most Tabloid attention during the year. The rags had a field day with Cruise, who gave every wag in the world plenty of material. Take your pick: his meltdown on morning TV when he discussed the evils of psychiatry with a bemused Matt Laurer, or hopping up and down on Oprah's couch. Then he dispelled those naughty gay rumors once and for all by choosing a new bride in Katie Holmes, and subsequently impregnating her in a story of Biblical proportions.
