November 25 - While this weekend saw some impressive football action in the
English Premier League, arguably the most head-scratching game of all was
between Tottenham Hotspur and Wigan Athletic, where the former gave the
latter an unbelievable 9-1 drubbing. Yes you read correctly, 9-1.

Before I even begin to give you a run down on what will probably become known as
the worst English Premier League result of 2009, let me first tell you that the
Wigan Athletic players were so mortified at the poor way they played on Sunday,
that they have offered to refund fans that paid to watch them.
Now I know what you're thinking and no this is not an April Fool's article that
was accidentally left on the editor's desk. On Sunday Wigan Athletic did have
nine goals scored against them, and their red-faced players have officially
offered to refund up to £15,000 to fans who trekked south to watch them.
Said Wigan captain, Mario Melchiot on the team website: 'We feel that as a group
of players we badly let down our supporters, and this is a gesture we have to
make to pay them back for their tremendous loyalty. Now we have to ... focus
completely on training this week to bounce back on Saturday.'
During the match itself, Wigan Athletic - which is currently 15th in the English
Premier League standings - didn't play to badly in the first half but in the
second half absolutely fell to pieces, as the team conceded eight goals. 'As
professionals, we were embarrassed by the way we performed,' said Melchiot.
And in other results of the shocking kind, Sunderland beat Arsenal 1-0 on
Saturday, adding yet another couple of frown lines to the crinkly face of
Gunners' manager, Arsene Wenger. After the game the Frenchman accused his
players of 'choking' in their quest to bring home the Premier League title.
On Saturday, Everton found out the hard way why Manchester United are the number
two team in the English Premier League, when they went down 3-0. And
Wolverhampton did not fare much better against Chelsea, when the Blues triumphed
4-0. Here are the full English Premier League Football results:
- Bolton 0-2 Blackburn

- Birmingham 1-0 Fulham
