March 31 - After the highly anticipated showdown between Final Four 'Cinderella' teams, the Butler Bulldogs and the VCU Rams, on Saturday night at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, NCAA college basketball betting fans can enjoy the second national semifinal of the NCAA Tournament between the talented Connecticut Huskies and more than capable Kentucky Wildcats.
Leading basketball betting site Bodog.com has published the UConn Kentucky Betting line with the Kentucky Wildcats as the -2.5 point favorites in what should be a tough game. Because even though the Wildcats are slightly favored, the reality is that the Kentucky team will have their hands full trying to keep the Huskies' exemplary point guard Kemba Walker in check.
It's no surprise that Walker has hogged much of the March Madness spotlight thanks to his high scoring antics. He has, after all, averaged a none-too-shabby 26.8 points and 6.8 assists in the tournament so far, and doesn't look close to slowly down. That said, the Wildcats are not without a slew of talented players themselves, particularly in the team's long and limber defense.
Statistically, Kentucky's defense has held their rivals to a mere 39 percent shooting. But the question is how well it will stand up to a team like UConn, who despite being the underdogs on Saturday, appear to be very 'hungry' to go all the way this season. And teams with that kind of hunger often pull out plays and scores that leave both their fans and detractors totally gobsmacked.
But the same argument can be made for the Kentucky Wildcats, who have clawed their way back into the Final Four for the first time since they won the NCAA Tournament title in 1998. They too are hungry to taste overall victory again. And as proof of this, NCAA oddsmakers installed the Wildcats as favorites on Saturday even though they lost 84-67 to the Huskies in November.
What is for certain is that these two NCAA powerhouses are pretty evenly-matched when all is said and done. Consider that the Kentucky Wildcats (29-8, 16-15-1 ATS) boasts the likes of arguably their best player, forward Josh Harrellson, as well as point guard Brandon Knight, defensive stopper DeAndre Liggins and sharpshooter Doron Lamb to name but a few.
Meanwhile the UConn Huskies (30-9, 21-12-0 ATS) have come off nine straight wins, thanks to Kemba Walker as well as other worthy players such as speedy guard Shabazz Napier, sophomore Alex Oriakhi and freshman Jeremy Lamb, who has put himself right in the thick of things to such a degree that he has even been rendered unconscious in the tournament.
