Will Big Brown Win Triple Crown With The Belmont Stakes - 05-21-08

May 21 - As the third and final race that makes up the coveted Triple Crown of horse racing nears, this is the question on everyone's mind after the undefeated 3-yeat-old colt, Big Brown, won the Kentucky Derby earlier this year and the Preakness Stakes last weekend.

Thanks to Big Brown's stunning record and ever-growing popularity with horse racing fans throughout the US, organizers at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, where the $1 million Belmont Stakes is run each year, are hoping for a capacity crowd and plenty of racing and betting excitement.

Scheduled for June 7th 2008 at 6:25 pm (EST), the Belmont Stakes is attracting wide media attention, not only because of Big Brown's shot at the big time, but because of the horse's New York connections and affiliations, including trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. New Yorkers are renowned for supporting their own.

But what should really draw punters to the track and horse racing pundits to their television sets across the United States, is the knowledge that the last Triple Crown winner was Affirmed, ridden by Steve Cauthen in 1978. This means that if Big Brown continues to run the way he has been throughout the year, he could become the first Triple Crown winner in 20 years.

However, Big Brown will be up against some stiff competition, including Casino Drive, who while only 2 for 2, convincingly won the Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont on May 10th this year. As such, punters would be wise to monitor Casino Drive, to decide if he has what it takes to beat the bodacious Big Brown.
