World Cup Betting Change As Germany Odds Shorten - 06-14-10
June 14 - There has been a notable move in World Cup soccer betting markets after Germany proved all their critics wrong in their first Group game against Australia. The game was expected to show that Germany's team was not up to their usual high standard, while Australia were expected to outperform as they have no prior standard in soccer. Instead Germany ripped through Australia as though in tanks, while the Socceroos looked like they played club football in Turkey (this later verified thanks to Wikipedia) in a 4-0 lambasting.
Germany were priced up at 14/1 to win it all, but those odds have now been cut to 9/1 and even those odds seem generous. Germany were in imperious form as they made Australia look like New Zealand.
No one backed Germany in ante-post betting, according to Blue Square, and yet even now they are still one point bigger than England who are 8/1 but could not find a way to beat America in their opener.
Other teams finding support after opening game victories include Holland and Argentina who both look dangerous at this early stage of the tournament.
