May 21 - Our 2006 World Cup betting preview continues with a close look at the latest odds to win Group B, a group that features the resurgent England, once again a force in world soccer, as well as the always dangerous Sweden.
Group B is dominated by England, currently the second favorites to win the entire World Cup, although the chances of that happening seem slim as England as a nation have been devoid of Big Match Temprament since the late 19th century. The last great English victory occurred twenty-five years ago when they ambushed the five guys who made up Argentina's "army" on a remote island. Their last great victory on the football field was actually forty years ago, but everyone who was there knows that the ball never crossed the line.
In order to lose a heartbreaker in the knock-out phase (you just know England will lose on penalties because that's what history tells us) they must first get past Sweden, as well as Paraguay and the group minnows Trinidad & Tobago, which apparently counts as a country when you combine them together.

There is little betting value here as it seems likely that England will win this group. We don't think they can win the tournament, but should be too good for Sweden. It is unlikely that either Paraguay or Trinidad & Tobago will threaten to advance to the second round.
