March 23 - Pakistan are suddenly among the tournament favorites as they became the first nation to earn a semi-final berth in the 2011 Cricket World Cup after they dismantled the West Indies earlier today.
Pakistan topped Group A, and then showed that was no fluke as they crushed the West Indies by 10 wickets in their quarter-final. The West Indies could only make 112 runs and the Pakistani openers made short work of that target.
As a result a few UK bookies now make Pakistan 7/2 joint-favorites along with India and South Africa although Paddy Power still offers 4/1 about this notoriously unpredictable team. Remember that Pakistan must now face either India or Australia next. One can only hope it is India in what should be little short of a civil uprising. Bring your full metal jackets to the game.
Sri Lanka have drifted to 5/1 while Australia are blowing out of the market to 6/1 ahead of Thursday's big game with hosts India in Ahmedabad.
Heroic captain Afridi took four wickets in Pakistan's victory and is now no bigger than 2/7 odds to be the tournament's leading bowler. With 21 wickets already he is 6 clear of the field and shows no signs of stopping. He is clearly an honest man, which is important in this sport.
There has been little movement in the top batsman betting markets, with Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara still market leader at 7/2 and Sachin Tendulkar (4/1) and Virender Sehwag (5/1) next best.
