June 5 - Many 2006 World Cup soccer teams were in action over the past few days, warming up for the big tournament in international friendlies. The results of those games have led to some movement in the latest World Cup odds.
England were impressive 6-0 winners at Old Trafford, but they beat Jamaica, so that result needs to be taken for what it is: utterly meaningless. The once maligned beanpole striker, Peter Crouch, is now being hailed as "magical" by the press following a hat-trick against a team that looked like they were rousted from hammocks and still suffering from a ganja-hangover.

William Hill shortened the Poms in to 6/1 to win in their World Cup odds, and they wonder why bookmakers now own publicly traded companies worth billions. Still there are plenty of sports betting punters that seem willing to bet on England to win at all, even at these ridiculous odds.
Ghana quietly put up another good result when they beat South Korea 3-1. Anyone who thinks Ghana will be a pushover in this World Cup needs to take a closer look at this team. There is a chance that Italy might not qualify from their Group. You heard it here first...
Ghana are 300/1 in the betting with South Korea 250/1 to win the 2006 World Cup. Not much store was set in that friendly result, although the real reason Ghana's odds are longer has more to do with their tough opening-round Group.
Ivory Coast demolished Slovenia 3-0, Brazil brushed aside New Zealand 4-0, and interestingly Holland were held to a 1-1 draw by Australia in Rotterdam.
Australia should not be underestimated in this tournament, and could well be a "spoiler", although it is tough to see them getting to the second round. The Dutch drifted in the World Cup betting after that effort, and are now 15/1 to win.
