As anyone with an understanding of international soccer can plainly see this is the toughest Group in the World Cup for 2006. All four nations can feel pretty hard done by here. While Togo gets to play South Korea and Ecuador sizes up Costa Rica these four teams will be involved in a real dogfight for the two qualifying spots.
Italy have plenty to prove following the debacle that was Euro 2004, but as usual they enter as one of the fancied teams in World Cup betting to win it all. We don't think that will be possible here, and qualifying from this group is not a foregone conclusion either.
The Czech Republic are great value at the current World Cup odds to not only qualify from this group but to go all the way. Can they win it all? Don't be shocked if it happens. The United States will struggle to get to the second round. They have a decent squad, but lack quality strikers.
Ghana have the talent but asking them to compete with these three teams is a tall order. We would be surprised to seem them advance from this Group.
