June 23 - England's odds to win the World Cup in South Africa were cut dramatically following their easy win over Slovenia. The Poms won it 1-0 but it could have easily been by three as they outclassed a Slovenian team that was then eliminated due to an injury-time winner by the USA against Algeria.

It was arguably the most exciting day in the World Cup so far as the USA were held until the 92nd minute when they finally got their just reward and won a game. Earlier they had yet another perfectly good goal disallowed by poor officiating, this time due a botched offside call.
Few neutral observers will miss the Desert Foxes of Algeria who failed to score a goal and only conceded twice in a series of dour and forgettable games.
The USA tops the Group and will now face either Serbia, Germany, or Ghana in the next round. All those teams will be hoping to avoid England who were much improved in their final group game.
The USA's odds to win were cut in half, which sounds substantial but they are still 50/1 and good value at that price considering they are Group winners and have a lot of heart. They will be a tough out for any team.
Prior to the game England had drifted alarmingly in the betting market for World Cup winner, as it was no sure thing that they would progress. But now that they are through the money is once again pouring in, even though this team has plenty to find against the likes of the South American teams and even Portugal and Spain.
