World Series Of Poker First Prize To Reach $10 Million - 02-15-06

February 15 - Poker's monumental surge in popularity, spurred on by the growth of online poker, shows no signs of abating. This year's World Series Of Poker is projecting a first prize of $10,000,000 - far and away the biggest payday in gaming or sports of any kind.

Last year's WSOP winner, Joe Hachem from Australia, pocketed $7.5 million but the tournament directors are confident that the 2006 edition of the World Series Of Poker will attract an even larger field, hence the increase in the first prize.

The reason for this can be traced to online poker rooms, particularly new sites like Full Tilt Poker that are looking to gain market share. Full Tilt Poker will send 100 players to the Main Event in freerolls alone. They will spend $1 million hosting five freeroll poker tournaments, and each tournament will see 20 lucky players make their way to Las Vegas free of charge.

Full Tilt Poker is also offering additional incentives to the players that qualify for the World Series Of Poker through their online poker room. If a player makes the final table he earns an additional $50,000. If a player gets to the final three he earns $100,000. Finally, if a Full Tilt Poker qualifier ends up winning the World Series Of Poker this year he gets an amazing...$10 Million extra. That's a potential $20 million payday through this new poker room, and we expect other new sites like Bodog Poker and Titan Poker to follow suit with big marketing efforts of their own.

It makes sense when you consider the level of publicity that is generated on behalf of the poker room, and it also explains why for now the poker bubble keeps on expanding. This year's World Series Of Poker is going to be something else!
