August 8 - The 2006 WSOP started with 8773 players but when play resumes later today only twenty-seven battle weary poker players will be left. Jamie Gold has a huge chip lead over the rest of the field, more than 5 million chips ahead of the man in second, Erik Friberg.
David Einhorn is currently in third place with 6.9 million chips, not too far behind Friberg's total of 7.7 million but way behind Jamie Gold and his stack of 13 million chips!
Rhett Butler is in fourth spot also with more than 6 million chips to his name. There are two poker pros left in the field with considerable world series of poker experience and plenty of WSOP cashes to their names: Jeffrey Lisandro and Allen Cunningham. If either of these two make it to the final table they would have to be considered a big danger to win it all.
But getting to Gold might not be that easy. Jamie Gold has been at the head of this huge but ever-dwindling pack for a long time now and he shows no signs of relenting. His ability to play with a big stack has all the railbirds a-twitter.
The player who busted out in 28th, Lowell Kim, and whose elimination ended last night's play took home $329,865 for his trouble.
The players who are knocked out 12th, 11th, and 10th during tonight's play will all exit the Rio as newly minted millionaires.
