August 9 - The 2006 WSOP is heating up considerably with the final ten players battling it out as we post this. When one more player is eliminated play will stop for the night (it's 1:50 am in Vegas) and the final table for the World Series Of Poker Main Event will be set.
The story of the day has been the meteoric rise through the field of 2005 WSOP player of the year, and the only big-name pro left in the field, Allen Cunningham. He has taken no prisoners today moving into second place overall currently with 16,850,000 chips.
That still puts him a long distance behind the WSOP tournament leader, Jamie Gold, who has played aggressive poker all day long and has a commanding lead with 27,250,000 chips.
Erik Friberg is third with a little over 10 million in chips, and the man in danger of going out in 10th spot right now is Fred Goldberg with 2,9 million in chips - still enough to do damage although not to the top two in chips.
Allen Cunningham is endorsed by Full Tilt Poker, and a win in this event would create tremendous exposure for the online poker room.
